ITS BRISK BABY

Last night i was enjoying myself to a little Bear Face. it was a fucking great show. atleast 35-49 people crammed into a little room in "heavy hood" as watt would say, and or Downtown Long Beach. The band put on a fucking great show. They are made up of 5 members, 2 from the non-existing band Loftus. They are one of my favorite unsigned bands right now. They got a ep out that you can get at there shows. check them out: Bear Face, www.myspace.com/bearfaceband

if you do get a chance to listen to them i must insist to tell you to listen to their songs Nick Cave and Siberian Artic Blast.

The Milkman of Human Kindness

My fancy has not been tickled in quite some time by any new bands, from this area especially, then again I'm not exactly looking for any. So here's a Billy Bragg video instead...

"YUKOKU" by Yukio Mishima- Original Score by Aaron Embry

Yukio Mishima was one of the most prolific and celebrated writers that ever lived, and this is his only film. It is also a disturbing example of life imitating art since it depicts a gruesome act of HaraKiri that Mishima himself would re-enact four years after filming, forgoing pig-guts for the theatrical glory of his own.
More about the film here.
In the original version of the film the musical score is program music by Wagner off a crackly old 78, but I've taken it upon myself to desecrate this fine piece of classic cinema and re-score the entire film with original music.
I hope you enjoy it!
Mr. E.

Family Blankets

Rebecca Coleman fronts the new band Family Blankets from long beach, behind her is Avi Buffalo: guitar & vox, Devin O'Brien: guitar & vox, Ben Cahn: drums & vox, and Melody Kohn: bass & vox. Together they bring great mellow, catchy songs. they kinda have an Arcade Fire meets folky Neil Young meets Department of Eagles. Their next show is at Mr. T's Bowl in Los Angeles on March 22.

My Youtube Pick for Today

The legendary Tom Waits laying down Waltzing Matilda live in 1977

Ooph that voice is haunting...

I've always dug this song but not until today did I learn that it is actually an old Australian Bush Ballad written by nationalist poet Banjo Paterson in 1895.

Boris Smile

A band that started in 2004, ive loved this band since their first show at rush park which i attended. They have an unique sound that might just be because they have so many members contributing to the madness. although on hiatus, these guys still happen to get shit done. they have a folk sound that can also be described as country too, in my mind. Totally cant wait till they get back to work.
Check them out and i insist on listening to "Home" "Leper King" and "Program Me to Love"

www.myspace.com/borissmile

Lon Chaney

One great band coming straight to you from the Seal Beach area of this great state of california. these boys have a raw sound that i seem to dig so much. If you close your eyes you could totally imagine 5 guys in a small booth recording on an old tape recorder just doing something they love. i got to say that there cover of "die die die" by Dr. Dog is killer, almost sounding as if Joe Cocker was playing with them. this guys are the ultimate cafe band.

check them out at: www.myspace.com/lonchaneymusic

Audacity

So a few months ago some friends and I ventured to Los Angeles, somewhere in the Valley to be specific, or not to catch the band Thorns of Life (featuring Blake S. of Jawbreaker fame) who were great, but what really stuck out to me was the opening act. Audacity. These kids put on one of the most entertaining sets I had seen in a long time, maybe it was because I wasn't expecting it, but either way it was wild. For most of their set I couldn't tell whether I thought they were awful or really awesome, which to me is a good thing (and it ended up being the latter as you can tell). I almost got a Descendents meets the Strokes vibe from them. These dudes were dressed in ridiculous outfits and were saying the most bizarre shit in between songs, I hope I wasn't the only one in the crowd feelin em'. They are from Fullerton, CA and I do intend on seeing them again soon.
Check out their grindspace: www.myspace.com/audacityca

The song "The Last Piece" is a real gem!

WildBunch needs to get a show with these fools I do belive you would get along well.

AVI BUffalO

Avi Buffalo

Avi Buffalo is a band once again from the Long Beach/LA area, bringing to you a folky/rockin sound almost like Joni Mitchell meets Sonic Youth, or sometimes a smooth sound that can drop into a rippin guitar solo kinda like if John Coltrane had a soft melody going and Neil Young joined him to finish the song off right. They're all great people and fun to hang with too. and soon will be releasing there first full length album recorded straight outta the Hunters Hollow recording studio.
www.myspace.com/avibuffalo

AmNIon

Amnion is a great LA based band fronted by Aaron and Nikki Embry. Together they drop great songs left and right with a sound so unique that its even hard to cover there unbelievable tunes. They are both great friends and wonderful people to shoot the shit with telling so many fantastic stories you'll never want them to stop. together they run the HUnteRs HolLoW recording studio right from there house.

Yeller

Yeller combines some heavy ass riffs with some reggae jams...sounding a bit like Sabbath with some Sublime spliced in here and there. These boys also hail from Seal beach/Rossmoor area and are down for mostly anything. Long time friends, nice guys, chillin buddy, always knows whats up and great musicians.

TIME of Wolves

Time of wolves are a great three piece band coming straight to you from long beach. Dylan(the guitarist) has straight forward slamming chords that gives them an almost sonic youthy feeling. Dylan is backed by two amazing girls that cover the rhythm 110%of the time. but be careful this girls are tough.

The WildBunch

The Wildbunch

The Wildbunch hails from Seal Beach, California and is composed of the brothers Celik and their very dear, though not so near friend Nathan. Think Ryan Adams, CCR, and Neil Young meets Husker Du, The Minutemen, and the Stooges, yeah. Just some good ol' American rock and roll from some dudes who enjoy a good burg and some good waves. Enjoy.
